Food insecurity remains a major challenge for many children’s homes in Uganda. With limited resources and rising food costs, access to daily nutritious meals is a struggle for caregivers looking after vulnerable children. To combat this, Beyond Light Foundation (BLF) has launched a feeding initiative, reaching 30 children’s homes in Kawanda, Kakiri County (Wakiso), and Bweyogerere, benefiting over 50 children.
Providing Essential Food Supplies
During our latest distribution, Beyond Light Foundation delivered nutritious food packages to ensure children receive the nourishment they need. The food items included:
Maize flour, rice, and beans – Staple foods providing essential carbohydrates and protein.
Nutritious porridge mix – A fortified blend to support children’s growth and energy needs.
Cooking oil and sugar – Necessary for meal preparation and balanced nutrition.
Fresh vegetables and protein sources – Encouraging a more diverse diet for better health.
“Before this support, we sometimes had to skip meals because we didn’t have enough food. This donation brings us relief and hope for the children.” – Home Caregiver, Bweyogerere
Impact on the Children’s Homes
This food distribution has had a direct and immediate impact on the children’s well-being. Many of them previously experienced malnutrition, stunted growth, and low energy levels. With regular food supplies, they can now focus on school, play, and stay healthy.
At BLF, we believe no child should go to bed hungry. That’s why we are working to expand this initiative to reach even more vulnerable homes.
